Ask any serious poker player where they spend the first half of
January and the answer is always the same: the PokerStars Caribbean
Adventure (PCA) – a gleaming highlight on the poker calendar
and a one-stop solution to the winter blues.
Taking place at the sumptuous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island
in the Bahamas, the 2011 PCA is set to be better and richer than
ever before. With more than $25,000,000 in tournament prizes expected
to be awarded, the PCA will once again be the richest poker festival
outside Las Vegas.
The ten-day festival, which takes place from January 7-16, will
feature more than 50 poker tournaments across a wide range of buy-ins,
formats and variants. Event highlights include a $100,000 Super
High Roller, a $25,000 High Roller, a $10,000 Turbo 6-Max tournament,
several Bounty events, and the $10,300 Main Event. The 2010 champion,
19-year-old Harrison Gimbel, walked away from Paradise Island with
$2.2 million. With over 170 players having qualified for the 2011
Main Event to date, and with more than $1.7 million already in the
prize pool, the 2011 PCA winner looks set to scoop even more!
Michael Ward, PCA Tournament Director, said: “The PCA is
truly a Poker Player’s Paradise. Each January thousands of
players descend upon Atlantis to take part in the first major tournament
of the year. Last year’s event produced over $24 million in
total prize money and without a doubt the PCA 2011 is going to be
richer than ever. The PCA is a must-play event for both the recreational
and the professional player.”
Satellite tournaments are already running on PokerStars, where
players can begin their quest for Caribbean glory for as little
as 5 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). There is also a wide range of
Steps (from $7.50) and Cash satellites (from $2.22 up to the weekly
$700 final). Please see http://www.pokerstarscaribbeanadventure.com/qualify/
for full details on how to qualify to the PCA.
The $15,780 prize package includes the $10,300 Main Event buy-in,
nine nights’ accommodation for two at the Atlantis Resort,
plus $1,002 in spending money. Players can also buy in to the tournament
directly through the PokerStars client.
Since 2004, more than $50 million in prize money has been awarded
at the PCA, a huge portion of which has gone to PokerStars players.
Former winners include Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’
Grospellier, Harrison Gimbel, Poorya Nazari (who pocketed $3 million
for his win), Ryan Daut, Steve Paul-Ambrose, John Gale and Gus Hansen.
George Markantonis, President, Atlantis, Paradise Island said:
“We are very excited to be hosting the seventh annual PokerStars
Caribbean Adventure at Atlantis, Paradise Island, this January.
Not only do we have the largest and most exciting casino in the
Caribbean, Atlantis has the beaches, bars, restaurants and activities
to ensure an unforgettable week.”
Away from the tables, Atlantis is one of the world’s most
exciting resorts, with guests given the chance to swim with dolphins,
play golf on the championship course, marvel at more than 50,000
fish and mammals in the on-site aquarium, or splash through the
water slides, river rides and swimming pools of the Aquaventure
complex. Alternatively, there are few better places to relax than
beside the shimmering blue seas of the Caribbean, on any of the
resort’s numerous beaches.
Whether you are seeking the chest of gold awarded to the winner,
or simply two weeks of Caribbean paradise in the middle of winter,
the PCA can provide it all. For further information and the full
