The world of poker has been growing by leaps and bounds, and the poker rooms, both in the real world and online, have continued to be the place where all the action takes place.  Every sport has its own big game, from the World Series to the Stanley Cup to the Superbowl, and the world of high stakes poker is no exception.  When it comes to poker, the place to be is the World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit, and this circuit attracts the biggest names and the brightest stars in the world of professional poker play.

The World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit traces its history back to October 25, 2004, when Harrah announced the creation of the circuit.  The idea was to change the World Series of Poker from a month long event to a year round sport.

The World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit is actually a set of different poker tournaments, held at different casinos hosting all comer events.  These tournaments are a chance for all players in search of high stakes top quality poker action to get their fill and try their luck in the big leagues.  Those who score well at these qualifying tournaments can earn a place in the coveted Tournament of Champions event.

The Tournament of Champions is a free roll event.  In other words players who participate do not have to put up any of their own funds in order to play.  Harrah’s casino, as host of the event, will determine the number of players from each of the tournament circuit events who qualify for the Tournament of Champions event.

Harrahs’ has used the popularity of poker to catapult itself to notoriety, and it has capitalized on the high profile of poker tournaments by hosting five legs of the tournament circuit which are open to everyone who wants to play, no matter what their skill level.

In 2005 those open entry tournaments were held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, San Diego, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, Lake Tahoe, Nevada and New Orleans, Louisiana.  The events were held once a month, starting in January and ending in May.  Each of those tournament events were taped for later airing on ESPN, and all participants who won their tournaments received six figure cash prizes and World Series of Poker championship gold rings.  Each of these five free for all events featured the game of Texas No Limit Hold’Em, making for exciting play for participants and viewers alike.

The World Series of Poker tournament plan has been very well received, drawing such poker world notables as Mimi Tran, Chris Ferguson, Erick Lindgren, Dewey Tomko, Chad Brown, Andy Block, Robert Williamson III, J.C. Tran, Tony Ma, Jennifer Harman Traniello, Phil Ivey, David Pham, John Cernuto, Antonio Esfandiari and Joe Awada among others at the tables.  In addition to these superstars, the World Series of Poker also brought out a number of excellent poker players from all regions of the country.

Ever since Harrah’s casino first acquired the rights to the World Series of Poker brand and name in 2004, the venue has been bent on expanding the World Series of Poker name into their various properties, and in to new arenas.  The establishment of the World Series of Poker tournament is one such move, and it has been a very well received move so far.  For Harrah’s the money spent on the promotion of the tournament has been money well spent, and the publicity gained for the company and its property make it one of the best ways to advertise their properties around the country and around the world.
