Common Blackjack Mistakes for Rookies to Avoid
Even experienced blackjack players and card counters make
mistakes at the table. In fact, every player does. Rookies are often spotted by
the simple mistakes they make on a regular basis. Avoiding these will make
other players think you have more experience and make you a better blackjack
player, especially if you are playing in a land-based casino.
- Never
play at a high stakes table if you don’t have the necessary bankroll. This
centers you out as a rookie every time.
- Be
sure to know the minimum table bet. You don’t want to make a $5, $10 or
$20 dollar bet if the table minimum is $100. This is not only
embarrassing, but it frustrates both the dealer and the players at the
table. Take note of the minimum bet by checking the small sign on the
table. Be sure you know the minimum bet before you join the game.
- Never
throw your chips into the betting circle in a sloppy manner. Always keep
your chips neatly stacked. This makes it easier for the dealer and other
players to know when you double-down.
- Never
handle your chips after placing your bet. This is very confusing for the
dealer. There’s no way for him to know for certain if you’re adding or
removing chips. Dealers admonish players for doing this and a reprimand
can be most embarrassing.
- If
you’re playing face-up blackjack, don’t touch your cards. Cheaters are
known for handling cards and marking them with their fingernail. The rule
of not touching the cards eliminates this practice.
- If
you’re playing face down blackjack, use caution when handling the cards.
If you’re careless, the dealer will let you know instantly.
Playing blackjack at a land-based casino is lots of fun. Be
sure to follow the points in this article to make your experience a pleasant
one and to avoid simple mistakes that will center you out as a rookie and cause
you a great deal of embarrassment. Good luck at the tables.
