Alan Goehring

Alan Goehring, born February 21, 1962, was not always a professional poker player but he certainly loves the life now.  Goehring is a former trader and analyst from Henderson, Nevada who retired to take up full time poker at the age of 37.  Since then he has left his mark wherever he has been and continues to be an impressive player.

Goehring had at one time earned the mark of not being able to go all the way in a tournament as he was plagued by nothing but a string of money finishes throughout his short career.  It was not for a lack of playing.   His first major mark was a third place finish in the 1997 World Series of Poker which brought him more than sixty thousand dollars and the chance to play against the prolific Jesus Ferguson among other top players in the poker scene.  1999 brought even more hope as he took home a second place finish and over seven hundred thousand dollars in the World Series of Poker.  Still, a top finish eluded him and he went on to win several more second place prizes which are nice in the money area but do not bring the fame that the top brings.

Joining the World Poker Tour season one brought the break that Goehring had been looking for.  The battle was long fought but he over took a Russian newcomer to bring home over one million in prize money as well as a championship.  He had the opportunity to play with some of the greats in the game as well including Phil Ivey and Doyle Brunson.

To this day, Goehring still has not achieved a World Series of Poker bracelet.  This is a sore spot for the talented player but he continues to move forward and make some impressive moves.  He placed an all around fourth in the World Poker Tour fourth season and also made it to some of the final tables, including the Grand Prix de Paris tournament.

Alan Goehring stills plays to this day and is honing his skills to make a run for the top spot in the World Series in the coming years.  He has more than enough money to console himself after a loss since he has brought home over four million dollars in live tournament wins.  At the age of 43, he is still a hot player and poker great Howard Lederer often comments on the impressive play and stamina that Goehring brings to the table.
