Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari is one of the younger players in the
poker world today but that does not mean that he is a pushover. Actually, the exact opposite is true of the Iran born
former magician. Born December 8, 1978
just outside of Tehran, Esfandiari moved to California when he was
nine years old. His actual first name is
Amir but he changed it because the children in school were constantly picking
on him about the funny way that his name was pronounced. While in school he learned of the world that
is magic and became a professional magician soon after graduation high
school. This served him well as he
traveled the world entertaining throngs of fans with his magical feats. He learned that he had a natural talent for
magic and the intricate hand and eye moves that came with it.
He used this talent in many other areas of
his life and soon learned that his life would be much easier. Thanks to the magic he was also introduced to
poker while at a show. This would be the
turning point in his life. He found that
magic had a lot to do with Poker as he found that bluffing was much like making
his fans believe in his tricks. The
talents that he had picked up while traveling as a magician served him well in
the many poker rooms that he started to grace and he found that he was having
even more success with the cards than with the tricks. Many people who have played against him find
him to be rather scary in the looks department because of his habit of intense
concentration on every hand that he plays. Furrowing his brow he looks like a
man on fire with rage but anyone who speaks with him finds that he is the
consummate entertainer and all around nice person.
Since
joining the ranks of the many professionals in the world Esfandiari has found that
success comes on many levels. While he has had much success in poker as a game,
including a World Series of Poker bracelet and several high money placing in
other events, he also learned that the glamour has its perks. Because of his
looks he has enjoyed several endorsement deals that come with his play and that
has brought him to a whole new level of income and fame. You can still find him in one of the many
cash games around Vegas as he prepares for the tournament season.
