Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman is one of the most famous of all the
professional poker players from the UK.
Boatman has yet to reveal his date of birth (most often he says
“Yesterday”) so his accurate age is yet undetermined. Boatman is a member of the famous Hendon Mob
which is comprised of a group of four professional poker players including
Boatman’s brother, Ross Boatman. The
term of the group is strange because only one of the four is actually from
Hendon, but the others have all played in the area as well.
Barny
Boatman is a trademark man with a style that is all his own. Through out play he has a smile on his face
that makes him seem all too funny and he talks as though he is in a constant
state of laughter. This personality has
done much to ruffle the feathers of the other players and that seems to work to
his advantage in many situations. He
started his love of poker at home where he would play with his brother and then
he started to enter some of the poker tournaments. He won the top spot in the very first
tournament that he entered and that seems to have set the stage for the entire
career.
2000
saw the first appearance of Boatman at the World Series of Poker. He finished in the money and then continued
on from there. He also finished in a
separate tournament four days later with a nice cash prize to mend his
wounds. 2002 would see a World Series of
Poker bracelet slip through his fingers for the two thousand dollar pot limit
event and he finished second with over seventy thousand dollars and the chance
to take part in another event. He would
end up with three back to back to back final table finishes and narrowly missed
a fourth final table finish. He was awarded
the Performance of the Year award for European Poker which only added to his
fame and general appeal.
The
2005 World Series of Poker would see Boatman finish in thirteen different
events with a money place. This beats
any member of the Hendon Mob several times over.
Boatman
still remains in competition and hopes to one day take home the gold with a
World Series of Poker championship in his pocket (or on his wrist as it were)
and finally claim a top spot.
