Barry Greenstein

Barry Greenstein looks like a lot of things but a professional poker player is not one of them.  With a slow looking face and some what blank look that hides the tells better than any pair of sunglasses ever could, Barry Greenstein is one of the top players in the game today.  He was born December 30, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Jack Greenstein, his role model for poker.  Jack was a prolific player in the Army and passed his knowledge down to his son.  Poker was not the attraction for Greenstein at first. He went to college where he earned a BA in Computer Science and worked towards a PHD in Math.  The call of the cards would become too great however and he retired from Symantec at the age of 36 to play poker full time.  This proved to be a very wise decision to say the least.

After the last season, Barry Greenstein is the proud owner of two World Series of Poker bracelets.  One for the 2004 no limit deuce to seven draw game and 2005 for the pot limit Omaha title against the incomparable Jesus Ferguson and many other highly regarded players in the poker world.  Two World Poker Tour wins have also bolstered his fame and wallet.  The first came at the fifth Jack Binion World Poker Open where he took home over a million in cash for the win.  The second was the Commerce Casino Invitational after beating Blair Rodman in a viscous head to head duel that lasted several hours.

The nickname “Robin Hood” has been attached to Greenstein and it is for good reason.  All of his tournament winnings are donated to charity, most of which have to do with children.  This is highly impressive when you consider the fact that he has won over four and half million dollars in the tournaments that he has played in.

At age 54 Greenstein is still one of the top competitors in the world.  He has also written a book, Ace on the River, which many new players credit as the reason they are where they are today.  There is no doubt that Greenstein is going to go down in history as one of the finest in the world.  This will be coupled with his overall generosity and charm that comes with being the finest in the league.  He will be around for a long time by the looks of things and that will only help his appeal and his wallet.
