Carlos Mortensen
Carlos Mortensen is one of the most unbelievable poker
players that has ever set foot inside the casinos for a poker tournament. This is a bold statement but it is supported
by those who have played against the young man and learned of his amazing
talents. Mortenesen made it to the top
spot without an extremely strange way of playing, the likes of which has never
been seen before. Of course none of that
matters unless you are a winner and that is exactly what El Matador, as Mortenesen
has come to be known, is and it looks as though he will continue to be a force
of unimaginable power for many years to come.
This means that all who join the tournaments will have to face this
young player in one or more rounds and that could prove to be their undoing to
say the least. He is a powerful player
because of his loose style of playing, this gives the opponents a false sense
of security as they believe that he is not betting properly. Only when they see the hold cards do they
realize that he was in control the entire time and had worked their tells to
the best of his ability.
Bluffing
is what works the best for Mortensen and he is known to have bluffed his way to
large pots while holding nothing at all.
This has created a bit of tension between him and a few of the people
that he has knocked out but that is all the name of the game. He has won some of the largest pots in his
career without even having a pair to show which makes him a master of the bluff
and takes the matter to heart every time that he sites down. There are few who can say with any bit of
honesty that they can find a tell on the smiling man as he is the epitome of
the major contender for the titles that are to be awarded.
Mortensen
was born April 13, 1972 in Ecuador. He moved to the US in the 90’s to play poker full
time. During this time he met and
married Cecilia Reyes, also a poker player.
At age 34, Mortenesen has won over three million dollars in open tournament
play and has two World Series of Poker Bracelets to his name including a win
for the main event in the 2001 series.
