Dave Ulliott
English professional poker player Dave Ulliott is a one of
a kind champion and he knows it. In the
early years he was referred to as “Dave the Clock” because he used a
grandfather clock to buy in to tournament when he was young. This kind of pandering did not last long as
Ulliott began to stun the world with his amazing skills in the game of poker.
Thanks to this he earned the nick name Dave “Devil Fish” Ulliott. The Devil Fish is a highly poisonous fish
that can kill a person quickly if not prepared properly. This is the motto by which Ulliott lives
stating that if his opponents are not prepared then they will be defeated. Nothing could be closer to the truth when
coming up against this veteran player as he has shown himself to be one of the
best players in the game, even though he has yet to earn a main event win.
One of his calling cards seems to be his
penchant for always wearing a tuxedo during even the most casual game. This
works to throw off the concentration of the other players and work the
advantage his way. Always donning dark
glasses to hide his eyes which is where he says that his only tell resides,
Ulliott breezes through a good many tournaments with skill and aggressive play. The son of a truck driver, Ulliott has come a
long way from the days when money was scarce.
Born January 4, 1954 Ulliott quickly climbed the ranks of players in
cash games in England and he soon found that no one wanted to play against him so he switched to the
tournament play.
To
date Ulliott has eighteen money finishes in the World Series of Poker and one
bracelet for a lower event. Combined
with his overall skill, Ulliott joined the World Poker Tour and began to make a
mark. He gained the attention of many
players when he bluffed his way to a title on the tour and managed to win
several hundred thousand dollars while playing as well.
At
this point Ulliott has won close to three and a half million dollars in live
tournament play making him the highest ranking English player in history. He has also finished in the money more times
than anyone for the Omaha limit style of poker tournaments and remains one of the highest ranking
contenders for the top spot.
