Gus Hansen
Danish life is fast paced and always on the go and that
point is made with the Danish poker star Gus Hansen. He has spent his life in pursuit of sports
and gambling and he has excelled at both points even from a very young
age. Hansen began his professional
career as a backgammon player and he was one of the top competitors in the very
small community of backgammon champions.
This was not good for Hansen who knew that his talents were being wasted
with the small amount of actual events in which he could compete. It as then that he decided to turn his
attention to poker and it was the right move for sure. Since becoming a professional he has been a
presence at most of the major tournaments.
One thing that he has failed to achieve thus far though is a World
Series of Poker bracelet. This is
something that he plans to change in the coming years as he continues to work
his way up through the ranks and win as much as he can.
The World Poker Tour has been the best for him so
far. He has become the only player in
its history to win four titles and he has made it to the final tables eight
times as of 2005. The four titles have
been nice as is he time that he spends on tour but he feels that he will become
an even more prolific player once he has more time to spend on the games,
especially the main event which is the holy grail for all those in the
professional poker world. During the
Poker Superstars invitational he managed to win among the top players in the
world and this was quite an accomplishment considering it is a one table event
that is brought in by invitation only.
Hansen’s style is somewhat dangerous and may have cost him
a fair amount of titles and money over the time. He prefers to go in as aggressive as
possible, and is known for his loose play.
He enjoys the bluff and going all in to make the raise even higher. This has cost him dearly when up against some
of the veteran players that can not be bluffed in most cases. His upper hand in some of these situations
comes from his grasp of the equity calculations that are so important to the
poker players around the world.
Hansen was born February 13, 1973 and now at the age of
33, he continues to play in all the major tournaments that come along.
