Isabelle Mercier
In a sport that is dominated by the male of the species,
Isabelle Mercier is proving that women are just as powerful around the table as
any man could ever be. Born August 5,
1975, Mercier began her professional life as an attorney. Moving from Montreal to Paris she
began to practice law as a commercial attorney before making the dramatic
switch to poker room manager of the Aviation Club. While working in this capacity she learned of
the valuable tricks and tips that could lead a person to a life of professional
poker playing, all the while earning a masters degree in her spare time. After several successful years as the poker
room manager she turned her attention to poker and struck out as a professional
full time player. She entered a
tournament for no limit hold and took second place with over fifty thousand in
prize money which cemented her place in the ranks of the professionals.
At
first Mercier concentrated her efforts on the European front, taking places in
tournaments all over the country. In
early 2004 Mercier joined the World Poker Tour and started turning heads. She caught the attention of some of the great
players in the game with her overly aggressive playing style. Her first World Poker Tour win came in the
Ladies’ Night Tournament with a twenty-five thousand dollar first prize. This win and her overall play earned her the
nickname “No Mercy” by famed player Mike Sexton.
During
the European Poker Tour she managed to outlast some of the biggest names in the
game today and go on to a tenth place finish.
This effort earned her the admiration of such players as Barny Boatman
and Gus Hansen.
Today
Mercier is a major competitor in the world of poker. She has placed high in many of the World
Series of Poker events and spends the off time playing in high stakes cash
games to sharpen her skills. While her
total live tournament winnings total less than five hundred thousand dollars,
her overall winnings are much higher. She is a staple in many of the casinos
around Nevada as people line up to play at her tables.
Besides
being a great live player she is also a sponsored star in several of the online
venues around the internet and remains a highly popular player in the World
Series of Poker. You can see her through
out the year playing in events all over the world.
