Robert Turner
Robert “Chip Burner” Turner is no slouch in the poker
world but he is far from the superstar status that so many have achieved. Turner began playing in 1970 and has been a
mainstay in the poker community ever since.
While he is not widely known as some are he is still a major asset to
the community and is credited with bringing Omaha poker to the World Series of Poker,
which happens to be his biggest forte.
This has gained him the admiration of many players in the game. Turner has always said that he is not a main
event player and never will be because of his disdain for the Texas game itself. The Omaha game
provides much more talent and overall skill than the bigger Texas sibling and remains near and dear to
his heart overall.
Despite his disdain
for the game, Turner has placed in the money many times in the World Series of
Poker main event but he states that this is purely for the financial gains that
are involved and he has no interest in the top spot other than the money. He has spoken publicly about the fact that
the Omaha games
do not receive the attention they deserve and that the prizes are too low, but
he continues to plug away making it his best showing everywhere. Turner has also maintained a status in the
game as he has managed to win Best All Around Poker Player at least once a
decade for the past three decades. He
considers these honors to be wonderful and some of his greatest achievements
overall.
Turner
is married to another poker player name Charity Turner who is a top contender
in her own right as well. At this point
in his career, Turner has decided to turn his attention to the cash games in
the many casinos. This is another
financial decision because he says that an Omaha player can earn five or six times the
money in cash games than he can in the live action tournaments, a matter that
he hopes the casinos will change in the near future.
Besides
being a professional poker player, Turner also owns a highly successful hair
salon in the state of California and also authors books with other great players from around the world. You can still catch Turner at one of the many
tables through out the city and maybe even get a chance to make skills with him
if you can raise the buy in.
